Heat host Wolves in South Beach

02/18/2009 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Miami Heat will kick off their second half of the NBA season Wednesday night, as they open a brief two-game homestand versus the Minnesota Timberwolves at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Miami entered the All-Star break with a 28-24 record and fresh off a 95-93 victory at Chicago last Thursday. Shawn Marion slammed home a pass from Dwyane Wade for the game-winning basket to help the Heat win for the second time in three chances.

Wade scored 24 points and dished out seven assists for Miami, which will also host Philadelphia and is 17-9 in South Beach this season. Marion and guard Marcus Banks were then traded to Toronto in exchange for center Jermaine O'Neal and forward Jamario Moon. The Raptors also gained cash in the deal and sent the Heat a conditional draft pick.

O'Neal and Moon are expected to make their Miami debuts this evening.

Minnesota will try to stop a five-game slide Wednesday when it closes out a short two-game road trip in Miami. In a 111-103 setback at Washington on Tuesday, Randy Foye had 23 points and rookie Kevin Love added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who are 9-18 away from the Target Center this season. Love has five double-doubles in six games.

Injured Minnesota center Al Jefferson is scheduled for season-ending knee surgery Wednesday. Jefferson went down on February 8 at New Orleans and averaged 23.1 points and 11.0 rebounds this year.

Mike Miller ended with 18 points, eight boards and six assists in a losing effort. The Wolves are 1-8 in their last nine games overall and have dropped three in a row as the guest.

Miami handed Minnesota a 99-96 setback on January 13 this season at the Target Center, as Wade scored a game-high 31 points to go with eight assists.

The Heat have won six of the last eight meetings with the Wolves, who have lost four straight and 13 of the past 16 contests in Miami.

The NBA trade deadline is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. (et) Thursday.
